Vtech Touch and Teach Review

When I was a kid reading meant, well reading. No funny sounds or music coming out of the book, just reading. I guess I’m dating myself because now a days children’s books are full of sights and sounds and all the better because why not appeal to the senses? That’s just what the VTech touch and Teach Word Book does. This book is designed primarily for toddlers but I actually picked it up for my 6 month old daughter and she loves it. Granted she’s not old enough for the ABC’s yet but she still enjoys the sounds that come out of the book and it teaches her how to grasp and manipulate things with her hands.

Review

It’s no secret that kids througout time are visual beings, show them something and they are likely to show interest. Gone are the days when you would sit in the classroom listening to the monotone voice of a teacher drone on and on about the ABC’s, numbers or the colours. I can remember when I would sit in class and have to write out the ABC’s over and over and over again. While there is something to be said about repetition like this, it’s just not fun. Over time fun was introduced into learning and it seems to be the cornerstone of learning these days.

The VTech Touch and Teach Word Book is a great addition to your aresenal if you’re looking for a great toy to help your kids grow and develop. The sounds and multitude of pages are enough to keep your little one busy and learning. There are at least three sounds associated with every word in the book, not too little and not too much but enough content to really be worth it. The lights provide a great visual stimulus that keeps children engaged. The pages are made of a hard plastic so they will never tear. I particulary liked the “find it” quiz which helps test your child’s knowledge but in a fun non intimidating way. Cody and Cara are great companions in the learning process too by introducing the value of friendship to your little one.

Conclusion

Overall the Vtech Touch and Teach is a great toy for your child especially if you’re looking to get a leg up on their development. There are tons of words to learn, lights and sounds to help with engament and the book is laid out in a easy to use way. even if your child isn’t quite at the toddler age yet, this book has many sights and sounds which really help with cognition and touch association. Down the road you will find that your toddler can now use it for more than touch and sound and now begin learning the ABC’s.
